    Program Description

The University of Vermont provides an ideal environment for family medicine training combining the resources of a university hospital with a thriving rural community practice. Residents are challenged to learn office, hospital and procedural skills. Flexibility in the curriculum is provided through longitudinal curricula and elective time. Personal growth and development are fostered by expert faculty mentors and structured individually focused community and practice improvement projects. UVM has a special emphasis on Addiction Medicine, Gender-Affirming Care and Reproductive Health Training, Obstetrics, as well as POCUS training. Residents join a team that provides medication for opioid use disorder clinics (MOUD) at their continuity practice. We are a RHEDI program. Our residents graduate with an average of 60 deliveries; with ample opportunity to reach 80+ for those who choose to pursue this in their future careers. Half of our 2026 grads were competent in POCUS upon graduating.
