Program Description
The Alaska Family Medicine Residency offers one of the premier rural training experiences in the US. The first year in Alaska's largest, state-of-the-art hospital ensures residents master the skills necessary to join the care team at our rural sites. In the second and third years residents have a total 3 1/2 months of rural immersion rotations caring for patients in small remote, isolated hospitals where primary care doctors are the only physicians and residents are on the front line in the full scope of family medical practice. Our Transcultural Medicine rotation teaches the skills needed to communicate effectively and empathetically with the diverse cultures of Alaska. Residents learn to practice in the most challenging environment in America, while enjoying the beautiful Alaskan outdoors. In our continuity clinic in Anchorage, more than 80 languages are spoken by our patients. CONTACT: akfmrrecruitment@providence.org
