Program Description
The UAB Huntsville Family Medicine Residency Program has been training family physicians for more than 40 years. Over 25% of the family physicians in Alabama trained here in the state's first family medicine residency. Our 450+ graduates have touched countless lives as private practitioners, faculty physicians, hospitalists, geriatricians, proceduralists, hospital executives, and representatives at local, state and national levels of organized medicine. Our primary inpatient site, Huntsville Hospital is a 941 regional referral center with a Level 1 trauma center. Our Family Medicine Center is the largest primary care practice in North Alabama and serves as the medical home to a widely diverse patient population. In terms of diagnoses, volume, and acuity these teaching sites are uniquely equipped to offer ample training opportunities within the framework of a supportive learning environment to ensure that our residents graduate with the medical knowledge, skills, competence, and confidence necessary to succeed in any type of practice they plan to enter.
