Program Description
The mission of the UK St. Claire Family Medicine Residency Program is to graduate family physicians well versed in all aspects of family medicine. Graduates of our program have pursued private practice, full spectrum with obstetrics, inpatient, outpatient, nursing home, university faculty, emergency medicine, and direct primary care careers. Many have practiced in rural Appalachia though some have pursued metropolitan practices. Your inpatient experience is primarily at UK St. Claire, a 150+ bed rural hospital boasting 30 medical specialties. Outpatient residency education is on site, with our family medicine clinic on campus as well, serving patients of the region with care of infants through geriatrics. We boast a strong procedural training including osteopathic manipulative medicine, dermatology, sports medicine, obstetrics, and gynecologic care. Residents do have the opportunity to pursue Osteopathic Recognition if interested. The University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP) and Physician Assistant (PA) Program are both based in Morehead. This provides residents with numerous opportunities to hone their teaching abilities. We strive to educate educators who compassionately advocate for their patients, rural clinics, society, and the profession of Family Medicine.
