Program Description
UPMC Shadyside applies world-class information technology and evidence-based medicine in practice. The program offers learning opportunities in the following areas: Global Health Track with an international project as part of the curriculum; Underserved Track at an FQHC; and the HIV Track where a resident can become credentialed during residency. Training is available in LGBTQ+ care, women’s health, QI, and behavioral health. Our program’s strengths include Office Practice and Quality Improvement, Teaching Patient-Centered Care, Patient Engagement and Population Health, Teaching Communication Skills, and Cost-Effective Patient Care. Our innovative, longitudinal outpatient quality improvement curriculum provides a unique experience in identifying and implementing quality initiatives at our Family Health Center. At the hub of the UPMC Health System, inpatient adult medicine training is based in an all-family medicine service. Residents will learn inpatient pediatrics and maternity care training at the region’s largest pediatric and maternity hospitals. Located in Western Pennsylvania, we have trained and graduated over 364 family medicine physicians since our accreditation in 1970.
