Program Description
The UTSW Family Medicine offers two residency tracks. Our Parkland track focuses on training residents to care for patients in under-served ambulatory settings, and our Southwestern Health Resources Track mainly serves the privately insured. The Both residency tracks offer world class expertise in cutting edge medicine. Learning medicine is fundamentally about seeing many patients in varied settings and with varied medical problems. Our residents enjoy that busy environment in the atmosphere of academic rigor and safe exploration of ideas. Both tracks offer Special Areas of interest in Community Action Research Experience (CARE), where a resident can earn a certificate in public health. We also offer special interest areas in Global Medicine, and Integrative Medicine. The strength of our program is its flexibility which enables residents to tailor their residency experience to their area of interest by allowing residents the chance to create their own special interest area based on certain criteria which then ends with a Departmental Distinction. We have the best of both worlds, a university setting with a urban underserved area feel, and a university setting with a community setting feel.
