Program Description
The Family Medicine residency program at UAMS offers outstanding educational and training opportunities supplemented by talented specialists in a university-based program with community-based resources, combining the advantages of both settings. Excellent, award-winning FM faculty members are the heart of the program, and they offer expertise in areas such as prevention, informatics, sports medicine, and more. Outside of the department, residents can choose from many elective options including infectious disease, endocrinology, cardiology, and pulmonary medicine. Research options include an elective in our Research and Evaluation Division, which is nationally known for cutting-edge work in Family Medicine-related topics. The department’s and the hospital’s electronic medical record systems set the standard for use of technology in maximizing patient care and are integrated to improve ease of care. The primary goal of the program is to produce physicians who embody the unique knowledge, skills and attitudes of the specialty of Family Medicine with an emphasis on preventive care. To this end, residents learn to balance academic growth, service expectations, and personal development while acquiring the skills needed to practice in any setting.
