    Program Description

Nestled in beautiful ‘green country’ in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma we’re working hard to build a medical home model that cares for patients along the entire life continuum. Our faculty, residents and staff are as diverse as our patient population and bring a wealth of life experience and enthusiasm to this task. As you look around our web site you’ll see evidence of the many innovative projects ongoing. We are continually enhancing our comprehensive family medicine curricula and in the past year our faculty spent many hours redesigning our family medicine inpatient educational curriculum to produce a graduated series of online self-study modules that guides residents from their intern through senior years towards gaining a mastery of the most important topics in hospital care. We were the first department in our university to adopt what is now the university-wide EMR. Our continued development of this tool has allowed us to better manage the flow of patient information between care locales, opened up new possibilities for clinical research (which has helped us win our campus research award the last three years running), and increased flexibility by permitting us to chart and check on patient information from anywhere via the web. We’ve taken on the crisis of those in our community with no health coverage by starting an after hours clinic for the uninsured staffed by medical students and volunteer physicians. Medicine is constantly changing, and we are committed to helping each other keep pace. Ultimately, we’re driven by a desire to educate you, the physicians of tomorrow, to be doctors who can serve your communities to the highest standard; one grounded in education, built with compassion and validated by continuing research.
