Program Description
Kaiser Permanente is recognized as a world leader in health promotion and disease prevention. Our program is one of six Kaiser Permanente (KP) Family Medicine residencies in Southern California, grounded in a strong commitment to community health and exceptional resident training. As an integrated system, we offer unmatched opportunities for broad clinical experiences and research. Our medical office serves an ethnically and financially diverse population. Our residents have a high level of autonomy and responsibility, but also have great faculty support when needed. Over 250 Family Physicians practice within Kaiser Permanente San Diego. Many of our faculty hold teaching appointments at UC San Diego School of Medicine and the KP School of Medicine. We are essentially an unopposed program, serving a diverse population of more than 600,000 patients in San Diego. Residents benefit from an ideal balance of hands on training and structured teaching, along with 27 weeks of elective time—including international opportunities in countries such as Mexico, Jamaica, Peru, Fiji, and Thailand. Our residents also serve locally at several federally qualified health centers, strengthening their skills in caring for underserved populations.
