Program Description
We are the only medical residency in a town of 70,000 and have the full support of our 200+ medical staff attendings. Our faculty have a strong interest in whole plant based lifestyle interventions for common outpatient problems. We will be the first hospital in South Texas to offer the Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program, funded by Medicare and including yoga, mediation, and cooking classes as well as traditional exercise programs. We have faculty from Nigeria who will host an international rotation there. We have 5 Family Medicine faculty who do operative obstetrics and inpatient pediatrics/neonatal resuscitations and will over time create an obstetrical track and fellowship. We have several rural rotation opportunities, including the beach town of Port Lavaca; a free clinic for homeless/abused/underserved; and an integrated mental health/primary care clinic.
