Program Description
Baldwin Health is a newly renovated 142-bed community hospital offering inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic and surgical care. Part of that renovation includes a new, state-of-the-art five-story medical tower. A dedicated and experienced medical staff offers more than 32 specialties, and the hospital offers services including Baldwin County’s only Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center, a women’s imaging center with digital services, 24-hour emergency care, a certified urgent care & imaging center in Gulf Shores, and much more. We have received numerous awards and recognitions, including Modern Healthcare Best Places to Work, Press Ganey Summit Award and The Joint Commission’s Top Performer® in Key Quality Measures. Our family medicine residency is fully accredited by the ACGME. Our residents have a 100% first-time board pass rate, and our annual in-training exam scores have always been above the national average reflecting our exceptionally strong curriculum and training environment. Our primary strengths are academic and evidence-based medicine, behavioral medicine, and full-scope family medicine. Many people may scratch their heads that a family medicine residency program at a community hospital without any other GME programs or University sponsorship would excel at academic medicine, but we do! Each of our residents graduate with at least one peer-reviewed publication and we pride ourselves as being the only non-University department (of 14 nationally) participating in the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN)’s premier writing project, “Priority Updates from the Research Literature” (PURLs). Additionally, we’ve achieved a sweet spot balancing an outstanding educational experience with personal and program wellness. This is proven out in our annual ACGME anonymous survey results of residents nation-wide as we out-perform our peer averages in 100% (12 of 12) well-being categories. Most people know Baldwin County as a premier vacation destination with miles of beautiful, white sandy beaches, but the lucky ones know that it is an even better place to live and work. Baldwin County is just east of Mobile, Ala. and west of Pensacola, Fla., on the I-10 corridor, in the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley Metropolitan Statistical Area (the 8th fastest-growing MSA in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau). Our population is growing with 200,000+ people and over 35% of the county’s population being between the ages of 18 & 45. With that growth has come incredible and diverse restaurants, entertainment venues, and outdoor activity offerings. We live and work where others plan dream vacations! Check us out!
