Program Description
“The CCMH Family Medicine Residency offers exposure to a uniquely diverse patient population, uncommon in traditional rural medicine. This diversity stems largely from the presence of a significant military population, including international soldiers and their families, in the Lawton/Ft. Sill region. Combined with the health disparities faced by the surrounding rural Oklahoma communities, residents encounter a broad spectrum of complex and challenging pathologies. As a result, our resident physicians develop strong resourcefulness and learn to leverage community and state partnerships to deliver comprehensive care to underserved populations. In addition to serving rural areas, the residency also cares for an underserved urban population in Lawton/Ft. Sill, including individuals experiencing homelessness, incarceration, and substance use disorders. The residency is integrated within a hospital and FQHC clinic system that functions as a regional healthcare hub for southwest Oklahoma. Guided by community needs assessments, the program is committed to bridging care gaps by providing targeted treatment for opioid use disorder, hepatitis C, and HIV. In 2024, the residency launched a Lifestyle Medicine curriculum, offering residents the opportunity to pursue dual board certification upon completion of training. Furthermore, the program holds Osteopathic Recognition and emphasizes the use of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) across both clinical and inpatient settings.”
