MultiCare Health System (Omak) Program

Program Description

The MultiCare Health System Omak Rural Training Program combines the benefits of an urban, established Family Medicine program with hands-on, real-world rural continuity experience. Tacoma offers urban living and Omak offers the western country life and is the heart of Okanogan. The Omak Stampede, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bull dogging/steer wrestling, skiing, hunting, hiking trails, are all included as part of the rural life. Rural medicine here includes providing medicine related to playing in the great outdoors. The three (3) year program is a 1/2 model, with the first year at Tacoma in an urban volume and acuity training with a well-established Tacoma Family Medicine Residency. The second and third-year training is in beautiful rural Omak, Washington at the FQHC Family Health Centers and at the critical access Mid-Valley Hospital in a longitudinal inpatient and outpatient training. There is strong sponsorship by MultiCare Health Systems, Family Health Centers, and Mid-Valley Hospital. The rural training program has two residents per year as a 2/2/2. The program is affiliated with the University of Washington Network of Family Medicine Residencies and UW School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, and the PNWU Pacific NW University School of Osteopathic Medicine. There are abundant life enriching activities in this rural environment, especially the North Cascades Mountains. We are looking for medical students and residents desiring full spectrum Family Medicine training to prepare for rural practice, and who are committed to improving the health of the community where they practice.
