Program Description
Welcome to the University of Cincinnati Family Medicine Program at West Chester Hospital. That is a long program title, but I will explain! We are a new 6-6-6 program and will accept our first class of six residents in July of 2023. Although our program is new, the UC Department of Family and Community Medicine has a rich history of fellow, resident, and medical student training. We will be the first graduate medical education (residency) program at West Chester Hospital. The University of Cincinnati opened West Chester Hospital in 2009 to serve as a community hospital in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati as well as the nearby small cities of Hamilton and Middletown and the surrounding more rural areas. We are about equidistant between Cincinnati and Dayton. West Chester Hospital is a 160-bed full-service hospital including OB, ICU, ER, and newborn care. We are thrilled to partner with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation! Our residents will complete their inpatient peds, pediatric emergency medicine, and peds specialty rotations at the CCHMC’s Liberty Campus, less than 3 miles from West Chester Hospital. West Chester Hospital and CCHMC Liberty are staffed by UC and CCHMC faculty. This gives us all the benefits of a community program with the resources and expertise of a university department. Our Family Medicine Practice (FMP), West Chester Hospital, CCHMC Liberty Campus, and our specialty outpatient clinics are integrated into this community. Most residency rotations are walking distance or a short drive from the FMP. We recently opened our new FMP for the faculty/resident practice. It is a newly renovated space designed specifically for resident education and we are quite proud of it! Our curriculum emphasizes community medicine, inclusion, and diversity, and to that end, we have partners including Primary Health Solutions (an FQHC and school-based health center in Hamilton, Ohio), Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio, Butler County Department of Health, Heritage Springs (a skilled nursing and extended care facility), and the Barrington Assisted Living Center. Being a part of the UC Department of Family Medicine also allows the residents to take advantage of our large and diverse faculty and services, including our Research Division, Integrative Health Division, Student Health Services, Geriatric Division, and Urban, Underserved, and Global Health Division. We are excited to collaborate with our department’s sibling program, the long-standing Christ Hospital-University of Cincinnati Family Medicine Program. Our FMP also hosts and teaches UC College of Medicine Medical Students throughout their four years of training. I hope this gives you a better understanding of our long title. We look forward to meeting you and discussing our program in further detail.
