    Program Description

Our mission is to produce community-centered family medicine physicians trained to meet the broad scope of medical needs in rural and underserved communities of Virginia and beyond through real-world learning that promotes diversity, civic engagement, discovery and innovation. Year 1 is in Richmond, VA at our large academic hospital. Years 2-3 are at our rural community hospital, 1.5 hours south of Richmond in South Hill, VA. We have focused training in social determinants of health, addiction medicine, and global health, with opportunity for supported international training. Our department has a wide and diverse faculty that span full time clinical practice, full time research, academic medicine, national/international leadership, and policy/advocacy. This offers residents opportunities to craft a unique training plan for the full range of possible Family Medicine careers.
