Who We Are
Standing together – 131,000 strong – the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is a national association of family physicians led by family physicians. With our colleagues throughout the country, we work to solidify family medicine as the cornerstone of a functioning health care system. We lobby government, negotiate with payers, partner with employers, educate patients, and champion family medicine on the national stage. Read more about our history here.
Why work for us
Besides working to make a difference in healthcare, there are several areas we value, including:
Year after year, work-life balance has been rated as one of the top reasons our staff love working at the AAFP. Family is important, and we know that—which is why we also offer a comprehensive benefits package, 37.5-hour work week, flexible schedules, family-friendly staff events, and an employment assistance program.
We all work towards our mission: To improve the health of patients, families, and communities by serving the needs of members with professionalism and creativity. Learn more about our strategic plan here.
Keeping it fun
Along with our other core statements, "keep it fun" is a part of our culture. These are the other behaviors that help us live up to fulfilling our mission:
- Value the family physician member – our primary customer
- Treat each other with mutual respect
- Deal with conflicts directly and respectfully
- Take personal responsibility, including accountability for commitments, results and quality
- Commit to learning and developing self and others
- Work effectively together in a collaborative manner
- Keep it fun by enjoying our work, celebrating our successes and maintaining a balanced life
And this includes, all facets of wellness--including financial and mental. Our onsite fitness center and relaxation room are a few of the amenties we have, and we also participate in staff-organized 5K races for friends and family to join, aim to provide healthy options in our vending areas, offer courses on mental and financial health, as well as how to live a healthy lifestyle.
It is the intent of the American Academy of Family Physicians to provide equal employment opportunity to all staff or applicants for employment, without regard to race, creed, religion, color, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, Vietnam-era veteran status or national origin. Equal employment opportunity includes, but is not limited to, hiring, training, promotion, transfer, demotion and termination. The AAFP also complies with federal, state and local laws for equal employment opportunity.
Our success is a direct reflection of our staff and all they do, so continuing education is important to us.
We offer a tuition reimbursement program, allot budget to join professional organizations and attend meetings, seminars or workshops, and have an in-house training program that offers different courses to help with internal resources.
These are just SOME of the reasons to come join our team!
We keep it fun, we care and we’re all working towards one goal—to help family physicians advance health!
