Join us for a special AAFP Town Hall featuring our expert panel, including "Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution" producer, Dr. Barbara Berney. We will discuss the award-winning documentary, ways to advance health equity for Medicare beneficiaries, and related legislation and advocacy.
"Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution" follows a chronological arc, beginning with federal legislation (the Hill–Burton Act of 1946) that allowed the spread of segregated hospitals following World War II just as black doctors intensified their efforts to end racial discrimination. Expand your understanding of health care for Black Americans before Medicare, and how it can continue ensuring all citizens have equal access to care.
