BLSO Provider Course

This course adapted from the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) Program, Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) offers evidence-based, hands-on workshops with mnemonics and case-based discussions that can play an important role in promoting teamwork. Pre-hospital resuscitation, communication in transit and transition to hospital care can be improved when pre-hospital and hospital providers share a conceptual framework.

The course is designed to improve the management of normal deliveries, as well as obstetric emergencies by standardizing the skills of first responders, emergency personnel and maternity care providers. It’s also ideal for medical students with an interest in maternity care.

Learners will successfully complete required online course elements at their own pace prior to attending the live course. The live portion of the course features mini-lectures, case studies, and simulation with pelvic manikins.

Upon completion of the course and passing the group testing, participants will receive a CME/course completion letter and a wallet card showing their BLSO Provider status with their renewal/expiration date.

Successful completion of required online course elements is mandatory prior to attending the live portion of this course.

At the successful completion of the BLSO Provider Course, participants should be able to:

  • Improve the management of normal deliveries, as well as obstetrical emergencies by standardizing the skills of emergency personnel, first responders and medical, nursing and physician assistant students.
