Repair of Vaginal, Cervical, and Basic 1st/2nd Degree Perineal Lacerations

  • Determine the indications for episiotomy and demonstrate proper and safe technique.
  • Demonstrate proper technique for repair of simple 2nd degree, peri-urethral lacerations, including instrument handling, suturing, and tying.
  • Identify lacerations that extend into the rectal sphincter and mucosa.
  • Explain strategies to temporize bleeding and patient discomfort until a consultant arrives.

  • Compare and contrast the use of ultrasound to CT/MRI for complaints of abdominal/pelvic pain.

Narrative Medicine and Maternity Care - A Writing Opportunity

A non-CME session for creative writing will be featured at the course. Dr. Martha Carlough will run the session. You are invited to submit your writings to Lee Dresang; please put "Narrative Medicine" in the subject line. Six submissions will be chosen to be read by the author over the lunch break session (lunch not provided) in the main ballroom on Thursday, July 26. You are encouraged to submit your work and show the creative side of Family Centered Maternity Care."

Registration includes online access to the syllabus and other on-site resources one week before the course. A hard copy of the syllabus may be purchased for $60 when registering for the course. A limited number of syllabuses will be available for purchase on site. Additional information will be provided by email after you register.
