• How METRIC Helps Meet the ABFM Performance Improvement Activities Requirement

The METRIC Performance Improvement Activity program will be eliminated on December 31, 2022. All modules, and the data, will be inaccessible after this date.

Purchasing a module is no longer available. Those who have purchased a module must complete it by December 31, 2022.

View the FAQs for more details. You may also contact the AAFP at (800) 274-2237 or email metric@aafp.org.

What is the Performance Improvement Activities requirement?

Certification requirements for family physicians are established and governed by the American Board of Family Medicine.

For the most up-to-date requirements, visit the ABFM website to learn about current requirements, including where you are in the certification cycle and when Performance Improvement Activities is due for your certification.

How will the ABFM know I’ve fulfilled my Performance Improvement Activities requirement through METRIC?

All modules of the METRIC program have been approved by the ABFM as an alternative activity for Performance Improvement Activities. The AAFP sends notification of all METRIC program completions to the ABFM within one week of completion.

Do I have to be in the Family Medicine Certification cycle to use the METRIC program?

No. Any interested physician can use the program. However, to earn Performance Improvement Activities credit from the ABFM, you must be in the correct stage of your certification cycle.

The date that you complete your baseline chart review and the date that you complete the METRIC module must both be in the stage of your certification cycle in which you need to fulfill Performance Improvement Activities.
