- Classify asthma severity in infants, children, and adolescents based on National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) guidelines.
- Prescribe asthma controller drugs to infants, children, and adolescents in a stepwise fashion based on age and asthma severity classification.
- Prescribe guideline-recommended therapy for infants and children with bronchiolitis.
- Clinically diagnose pneumonia (ie, without use of chest x-rays) in infants and children older than 3 months who are well enough to receive outpatient treatment.
- Prescribe appropriate drugs for management of croup based on illness severity.
- Recognize that infants with congenital facial hemangiomas in a trigeminal V3 distribution (ie, a beardlike distribution involving the chin or lower lip, and/or in the oral cavity) almost always have subglottic hemangiomas.
- Prescribe appropriate drugs for management of respiratory symptoms in infants and children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
- Perform a sweat test for cystic fibrosis (CF) in patients of any age with signs and/ or symptoms consistent with CF, regardless of whether newborn screening results were negative.
