    Shawn Martin is the executive vice president and CEO of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), where he provides strategic leadership for the nation’s largest primary care organization. Widely recognized nationally as one of the most influential voices in health care, he is well-known for his expertise in primary care where he has made significant contributions to health care policy and workforce issues, particularly in developing and implementing primary care delivery and payment models.

    Before his current position, Martin was the senior vice president for advocacy, practice advancement, and policy at the AAFP, and he also served as the Director of Government Relations and Health Policy for the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). His leadership roles in various coalitions have further solidified his influence in the field, earning him recognition as one of Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare (2022, 2023, 2024) and one of the top 10 health care lobbyists in Washington, DC, by The Hill.

    Originally from Oklahoma, Martin holds an undergraduate degree from Phillips University and a graduate degree from Dartmouth College.
