The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recognizes that inappropriate use of antibiotics can pose a risk to both personal and public health. Family physicians play a key role in antibiotic stewardship. Antibiotic prescribing should be based on best available evidence such as recommendations from the Choosing Wisely Campaign or society-based guidelines reviewed and endorsed by the AAFP.
