The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) acknowledges that hate crimes directed against protected classes, including race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and disability status pose specific and distinct health risks for our patients. The AAFP supports the development and implementation of anti- discrimination and hate crime laws that seek to protect victims from perpretrators. The AAFP further supports research and educational programs directed at the prevention of hate crimes, and promotes interventions that address the physical and psychological health needs of hate crime survivors.
