June 18, 2019 04:33 pm News Staff – Periodically, CMS updates its Quality Payment Program Resource Library, and a sharp-eyed AAFP payment expert noticed that some recent additions to that collection could prove particularly useful to family physicians participating in the 2019 QPP.

For instance, check out a new comprehensive infographic titled "Participating in the Quality Payment Program: Overview for Clinicians" that is chock full of details pertinent to the 2019 performance year.

    This resource

    • explains how physicians can check their QPP participation status,
    • outlines requirements for participating in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System and Advanced Alternative Payment Models, and
    • highlights key dates to keep in mind from now through March 31, 2020.

Another useful tool now available is the 2019 MIPS Cost User Guide, which highlights participation details for the MIPS cost performance category and includes information on cost basics, cost measures, reporting requirements, scoring, reweighting, facility-based scoring and more.

Family physicians might also choose to review the 2019 MIPS Quality User Guide, which details participation eligibility for the MIPS quality performance category. This resource covers quality basics, quality measures, reporting requirements, collection types, submission rules, scoring and more.

Lastly, the 2018 MIPS Eligibility Redetermination Fact Sheet details, among other things, what practices need to consider if a MIPS-eligible clinician left the practice during the performance period.

This information sheet even includes an example of how the 2020 payment adjustment would look for a hypothetical MIPS-eligible physician who changed practices midstream.

Keeping in mind the old saying "What you don't know can hurt you," QPP-participating physicians shouldn't hesitate to review the details governing a program that has the potential to affect their bottom line.
