    "On a Mission"

Bill Dabbs, MD, Katherine Dabbs, MD, Ryan Dougherty, MD, and Meghan Dougherty, MD, put a carpool karaoke twist on the AFP Podcast theme song.

    "Health Is Primary"

Mehul Sheth, MD, FAAFP, is a family physician in Kenner, La., and a faculty member with Ochsner Health System and the University of Queensland/Ochsner Clinical School, New Orleans, La.

    “Health Is Primary”

In a world where health is failing
    And diseases are prevailing
    Depressing health news headlines abound

    We’re the family physicians
    Committed to the mission
Of keeping you and your loved ones around

So while you’re on your rotation
    And getting your education
On what it is we do everyday

May I impart on you some words,
    Be they silly or absurd,
That may help you out in some tiny way

You better learn your bread and butter
‘Cause it’s not all cookie cutter
Read up on all the common things

    Hypertension, diabetes
You know you gotta know these
Joint pain, rashes, bites, and stings

From Pink puffers and blue bloaters
To “My urine has this odor”
Get used to quickly switching gears

    Learn your Pathophysiology,
    Anatomy, Pharmacology
The more you know, the less you will fear

We see heart disease to allergies
They say good health is primary
We don’t discriminate age, sex, or weight
We take care of the whole family

    Doc I’m just so tired
    If I don’t get well I’m fired
Get good at working up fatigue

Lots of sleep and mood disorders
    And the occasional goiter
Or anemia from a GI bleed

You’ll see many kinds of patients
And you’ll need to have some patience
To sort through all the gritty details

They may have a lot to bring in
Enough to make your head spin
If it’s hard for you than think how they feel

    So be your patient’s advocate
It’s a good deed that they won’t forget
And if you want to arrange some serious change
The frontline is where you better get

So as you start your new adventure
    Stay engaged and invested
No matter if you start with FP

    Or surgery, derm, or Ob-gyn
The lessons learned here you will find
    Will help in any specialty

    Make connections with your patients
    Prevention, immunizations
    We do comprehensive healthcare daily

So before you call the specialist
You know you can totally handle this
    Because good health is Primary

    Because good health is Primary!
