This series addresses barriers for family physicians in conducting hereditary breast cancer (HBC) screening, referral, and communicating with patients. Each 15-minute module covers an important aspect of identifying and dealing with HBC. Topics include narrative medicine and using it to discuss HBC risk; setting up the primary care office for HBC screening and referral; working with genetic counselors; and supporting patients’ concerns about insurance, disclosure, and communicating to family.
