Daniel Merenstein, MD

Dr. Merenstein sees patients three shifts a week and teaches two undergraduate classes, a research capstone, and a seminar on evaluating evidence-based medical decisions. He also has a secondary appointment in the undergraduate Department of Human Science in Georgetown University’s School of Nursing and Health Studies. He has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and various foundations and industry groups. The primary goal of his research is to improve patient care by providing answers to common clinical questions that lack evidence. Dr. Merenstein is a clinical trialist and has recruited more than 1,700 participants for eight probiotic trials since 2006. He is an expert on probiotics and antibiotic stewardship in outpatient settings. In addition, he conducts HIV research in a large women’s cohort.
