Clinical Procedures Workshops

Dermoscopy Workshop for Skin Cancer Diagnosis with Online Module (Flipped Classroom)

The dermoscopy workshop will improve your knowledge and skills diagnosing skin cancers with a dermatoscope. Participants will learn the dermoscopic features of skin cancers and apply this new knowledge to unknown cases. There will also be a hands-on component with various dermatoscopes.

Experience a unique flipped classroom educational format. First, watch an online CME video module at your convenience. Once on site at FMX, attend the associated Clinical Procedures Workshop. Earn CME for both the online module and onsite workshop.

Thursday, October 11, 2018

1:00 - 4:00 p.m. (CME409)

By completing the online module before you arrive at FMX, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the benefits of dermoscopy for the evaluation of skin lesions.
  • Review the mechanism of dermoscopy.
  • Assess limitations of the visual examination for the evaluation of skin lesions.

From attending the workshop at FMX, you will be able to:

  • Examine different skin lesions using dermoscopes to determine typical pathologic patterns of types of skin cancer.
  • Utilize dermoscopy to differentiate seborrheic keratosis from melanocytic lesions.
  • Integrate checklists and evaluation tools into a dermoscopic examination of suspected skin lesions and melanoma to compile an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Conduct a cost/benefit analysis of dermoscopes in your practice.

Reminder: Completion of the online video module is a pre-requisite for attending the interactive workshop on site at FMX. Registrants for the workshop will receive an email in September when the module is available to watch.
