Nail Procedures: Best Practices and Updates

This workshop is designed to review nail procedures commonly performed in family medicine and practice select procedures on the nail models. We will review current evidence and best practices. Topics to be reviewed include nail anatomy, anesthesia for nail procedures including digital blocks, nail matrix ablation, and incision and drainage of paronychia. Procedures practiced on models include nail avulsion (removal,) nail biopsy and hematoma evacuation.

  • Illustrate the steps used to treat ingrown nails and nail abnormalities.
  • Prepare assessment and treatment plans for different patient populations who may require various nail procedures.
  • Assemble appropriate tools for nail procedures.
