ALSO® Instructor Course

Learn how to provide an interactive learning experience for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Provider course participants to assist them in obtaining the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage potential emergencies during pregnancy. Current ALSO Provider status as of September 23, 2019, is required to attend this course. Separate registration fee required.

You do not need to be registered for AAFP FMX in order to attend this course.

This one-day Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Provider course is an evidence-based interprofessional training program that prepares members of the entire maternity care team to better manage obstetric emergencies through teaching standardized approaches to care. The online course elements must be successfully completed before attending the live course. Separate registration fee required.

You do not need to be registered for AAFP FMX in order to attend this course.

Nexplanon Clinical Training Program 

Tuesday, September 24 l 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Room: 113C

Receive hands-on training for Nexplanon insertion, removal procedures, and implant localization techniques during this two-hour training session. Participants who complete the session will be eligible to order Nexplanon from authorized distributor(s). Certificates of attendance will be issued for those attending the entire session. Nexplanon Training is NOT available for CME credit.

Stop the Bleed 

Thursday, September 26 l 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. 
Room: 113C

Stop the Bleed is a program intended to cultivate a grassroots effort to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. This session will teach you how to conduct "train the trainer" workshops. Upon completion of the session, you will receive a certificate of acknowledgement stating your approval to conduct Stop the Bleed sessions in your community. Stop the Bleed training is NOT available for CME credit.

MAT Waiver Training

Thursday, September 26 l 7:00-11:00 a.m. and Friday, September 27 l 1:00-5:00 p.m. (must attend both sessions to complete the course)

Under current regulations, authorized practitioners are required to obtain a 'waiver' to prescribe buprenorphine. To acquire this waiver, physicians are required to complete a standardized buprenorphine waiver 8-hour training. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) are required to complete the standardized buprenorphine waiver 8-hour training as well as an additional 16 hours of online training as established by the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA). Upon completion of the required training, providers will meet the requirement of the DATA 2000 to apply for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
