Showcase Your Latest Research

You’re doing remarkable work in family medicine every day. That’s why you’re invited to submit your research and/or case study as an ePoster* for inclusion during the AAFP’s premier event, Family Medicine Experience (FMX), September 20–23, in Washington, DC.

After two years apart, our family medicine community can’t wait to reunite in person—and your research could be part of their experience. Thousands of family physicians attend FMX each year to earn CME and learn the latest in the specialty. Think of the impact your reach could make!

New for 2022

  • All ePosters will be organized into three categories: Clinical, Career, or Practice. These categories replicate how education will be delivered at FMX.
  • Global health education is now solely at FMX. Global health ePosters will be submitted through this same application process. 
  • ePosters will be available to view at kiosks onsite at FMX and via the FMX mobile app.

ePoster Application Information

General Information

  • Submission deadline: May 27, 2022, 11:59 p.m. CDT
  • Notifications of acceptance or denial will be sent to the primary author on the application in late June. 
  • Encore submissions are allowed.
  • Abstracts must be at least 250 words.
  • The primary author is responsible for responding to correspondence from the AAFP. If a request for additional information is not responded to in a timely manner, you may be disqualified.
  • Each author listed on an application MUST complete Option 1 of the AAFP’s CME Disclosure Form when the application is submitted. If any author fails to do so, you may be disqualified.
  • If any authors on your application don’t have an AAFP Member ID, which is required to complete the CME Disclosure Form, they can obtain one by contacting the Member Resource Center at (800) 274-2237.
  • Only individuals without relevant conflicts will be selected.
  • A FINAL version of the ePoster must accompany the application.

The criteria outlined above will be used by the judges when scoring each ePoster.

Poster Guidelines

  • The ePoster must be one slide.
  • ePosters should be landscape or widescreen format (16:9 ratio).
  • You may use PowerPoint or any program that can be converted to PDF.
  • Include your title on your slide.
  • Tables, charts, pictures, or diagrams can be included.
    • All images must be labeled with a minimum of Arial font 14 point or larger.
  • For images/pictures or graphs, the suggested resolution is 300 dpi. To check that they appear correctly on the final version, zoom in at 100% and check the images. It is better to use high-quality images when creating the poster and then convert it to PDF.
  • Provide clear labels or headings for each section.
  • Use black text and a consistent text size.

The criteria outlined above will be used by the judges when scoring each ePoster.

What to Include in Your Abstract

If you are submitting a case study, please include or keep the following in mind:

  • Is this case important to family physicians? If so, explain why.
  • Is this case unique in any way? If so, please explain.
  • What can this case teach family physicians, and how will it affect future practice?
  • What is the clarity and purpose of the study, and will it affect patient care?

If you are submitting a research project, please include or keep the following in mind:

  • Is the research patient oriented?
  • What is unique or original about the topic?
  • What is the clarity and purpose of the research, and will it affect patient care?
  • What are the conclusions and next steps?

The criteria outlined above will be used by the judges when scoring each ePoster.

On-site at FMX 2022

The main author of the top three ePosters in each of the following categories will be invited to deliver a live 3-minute presentation during the FMX ePoster Award Showcase, Friday, September 23, at 1 p.m. EDT.

  • Medical Student Case Study
  • Medical Student Research
  • Family Medicine Resident Case Study
  • Family Medicine Resident Research

The main author from each of the top 10 Global Health ePosters will be invited to deliver a 30-minute presentation on Tuesday, September 20, at FMX.

*Per ACCME/CME regulations, all ePoster materials must be without the appearance of a conflict of interest and cannot contain any advertising, trade names, corporate logos, or product-group messages.
