Have questions? We can help! This is your one-stop-shop for everything FMX. We’ve compiled quick answers to questions to make your experience smoother and help ease any uncertainty. Because at the end of the day, your focus should be on enjoying the family medicine conference, not worrying about the details.

What is FMX?

Family Medicine Experience (FMX) is the AAFP’s premier family medicine conference, bringing together thousands of family physicians, care team members, and exhibitors each year to celebrate and enhance health care’s most impactful specialty. Every year, FMX takes place in a different city; this year, we’re gathering in the heart of Southern California, in sunny Anaheim.

FMX offers the latest tailored, evidence-based education, enabling attendees to earn a year’s worth of continuing credits in just five days. But that’s not all—FMX also unites the family medicine community for invaluable professional networking, inspiring moments on the Main Stage, and exclusive access to The Xchange, an expansive exhibit hall featuring health care innovations, patient care resources, sponsored educational opportunities, among other exciting experiences.

When is FMX ’25?

FMX is happening October 5–9, 2025 at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92802.

We hope to see you there!

Who can attend FMX?

AAFP members, including students, residents, new physicians, active physicians, life members and international members as well as nonmember and international physicians, supporting physicians, care team members and approved exhibitors. (Our FUTURE Conference is designed especially for medical students.)

AAFP members receive exclusive saving on their registration based on their unique member type. Interested in learning more about AAFP membership? Start here.

What is the FMX guest policy?

Guests of attendees are allowed to attend for free. Please note, guests are not allowed in sessions or workshops and are discouraged from attending the exhibit hall, The Xchange, to ensure our physician attendees can maneuver the floor seamlessly.

Can my family attend the conference with me?

We realize attending is a family decision, and we want your support system to be present, so know there’s plenty to do in Anaheim if you want to turn FMX into a family vacation. Anaheim has plenty to offer (hint: Disneyland!) To assist attendees traveling with children, FMX does offer on-site childcare, Camp FMX. View details.

This is my first time. What can I expect?

Attending FMX—or any conference, for that matter—is an incredible opportunity to grow your skill set, make valuable connections and gain inspiration from specialty leaders.

Here’s some key advice from attendees who’ve been in your shoes:

  • Maximize your conference experience by determining what you want to achieve on-site in advance. We suggest setting some SMART goals— Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.
  • Network, network, network—it’s a valuable opportunity to learn from others and build professional connections.
  • Review the conference schedule in advance and save sessions that resonate with your interests and goals. Make plans to explore a mix of session types and formats, such as keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops and interactive sessions. Variety can provide different perspectives and learning experiences.

What’s the dress code at FMX?

Many attendees opt for business or business casual attire. Our best advice? Bring a sweater or light jacket, as the session rooms tend to be on the chillier side.

Another alternative? Stop by the Fam Med Merch Shop on-site to browse one-of-a-kind family medicine apparel.

What’s the conference schedule like?

For starters, you’ll never be bored. The official FMX schedule starts on October 5 and is packed with over 140 sessions, sponsored learning opportunities, networking events, AAFP member meetups, Main Stage sessions, dedicated hours to explore The Xchange and more.

But don’t let the jam-packed schedule deter you. Almost all our educational sessions are available to access through FMX On Demand. Design your perfect FMX experience around your schedule. Attend as many sessions as you'd like, while also making time to build valuable connections.

When should I arrive at FMX?

To make the most of your FMX experience, we recommend arriving by Sunday morning, October 5, 2025, to ensure you don’t miss any valuable education sessions. Plan to depart Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2025, after enjoying a half day of engaging education.
