“My favorite National Conference memory is getting an iced latte from one of the nearby Kansas City coffee shops, walking through the Expo Hall, and sharing in a mutual love for family medicine.”

“National Conference is a weekend packed with residency programs, medical education workshops, congressional advocacy, and the energy and spirit of family medicine.

Not only will you network with residency programs, but you’ll also meet people from across the country who will be your collaborators on everything from academic projects to social justice movements.

I’ve met friends whom I later submitted workshops with at academic conferences. I’ve met programs that helped me expand the type of faculty physician I wanted to become. I’ve also connected with friends at other residency programs.

Besides networking, some of the most valuable sessions to me as a resident have been around negotiating contracts, planning for career, and medical billing. It’s so reassuring to know other residents have similar questions as me.

The leadership opportunities at National Conference are also so important. My first leadership position was the medical student representative to the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Board of Directors, which was my first formal entry into the world of organized medicine. I was surprised to find so many of our colleagues are already thinking and acting about anti-racism, justice, and equity. As the 2024 Resident Chair of National Conference, I’m committed to making sure everyone is aware of these leadership opportunities and to inspire more diverse representation at the national level.”
