All scholarship checks are distributed at the Physician Health and Well-being Conference. If you are unable to attend the conference, your scholarship will be forfeited.

Submission of applications is now closed.

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a member of the AAFP to apply. New or lapsed memberships may take one week to process. Please plan accordingly as late applications will not be accepted. Join the AAFP now.

You must be able to attend the entire Physician Health and Well-being Conference (defined as arriving no later than noon on Monday, May 6, and leaving no earlier than noon on Wednesday, May 8).

Scholarship winners must be registered as attendees for the conference by April 12, 2024. Those who are not registered by this date will not receive a scholarship.

Submission Guidelines

It is recommended you have all items listed below ready and in the required format before starting your online application.

  • Contact information (including AAFP ID)
  • Please provide a personal email address as hospital email systems often have spam filters/firewalls that hamper the receipt of external emails.
  • You are encouraged to give considerable thought to the essay questions and draft your answers in a separate document prior to beginning your application.
  • The AAFP is committed to building a diverse workforce. If applicable, you may complete an optional essay to briefly describe how you identify as someone underrepresented in medicine.

Writing Tips

  • When writing your answers, keep in mind that hundreds of applications are received and reviewed by the judges.
  • Make your application stand out and try to avoid clichés.
  • The application is a chance for the judges to learn about you and your goals; you are encouraged to provide thoughtful and authentic answers.

Travel scholarships are available as part of the funding from Physician Health First: Building Resiliency Intersectionally During Graduate Education (BRIDGE) and are supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award totaling $2,200,002 with zero percentage financed with non-governmental sources. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement by, HRSA, HHS, or the U.S. Government.
