• Meaningful Outcomes and Science to Advance Innovations Center of Excellence (MOSAIC)

    Study Description and Methods

The AAFP NRN was one of eight collaborative research networks to receive a 5-year, Center of Excellence in Primary Care Practice-Based Research and Learning award by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

The AAFP NRN and DARTNet Institute have partnered with 13 other networks from around the country to form the PBRN Center of Excellence and will serve as a Research Center in Practice-Based Research and Learning. The center will be managed through the AAFP NRN, headed up by the AAFP NRN's Research Director, Kim Kimminau, PhD and will provide infrastructure to promote clinical, behavioral and translational research activities consistent with AHRQ priorities.

    Specific Aims and Objectives

The MOSAIC P30 is a 5 year award and is funded through August 2017. The purpose of this award is to help stimulate cooperative research, increase the effectiveness of current research, and promote new research directions through collaborations among existing PBRNs, while accelerating both the generation of new knowledge and a community of learning for primary care practices to improve quality, patient safety and effectiveness of care.

As the core center, the AAFP NRN will represent a consortium of cooperating institutions and will serve to foster synergy and improve coordination of research, support emerging research opportunities, and promote efficiencies through resources shared by the partner networks.

    MOSAIC’s AHRQ Profile

To highlight the innovative and exciting work being conducted in PBRNs, AHRQ has created a series of profiles featuring the eight AHRQ PBRN Centers for Primary Care Practice-Based Research and Learning. The MOSAIC profile spotlights the areas of expertise, leadership, practical experience, and state-of-the science pursued by our partner PBRNs and MOSAIC collectively.

Each PBRN Center of Excellence has a unique purpose and focus, but all share common features and goals with the ultimate aim of improving patient care to: bring together multiple PBRNs to stimulate innovation in improving the delivery and organization of primary care; nurture partnerships; conduct research; and disseminate knowledge. More than 50 distinct PBRNs, about one-third of all registered Primary Care PBRNs, are members of a PBRN P30.

    Practice-based Research Certificate Training Program

MOSAIC, in collaboration with seven other Centers of Excellence in Practice-based Research and Learning, is delighted to be involved in this exciting opportunity and to contribute to the development of this certificate program.

This certificate program is designed to develop a new generation of practice-based research network investigators. The selected fellows will receive training in concepts, skills, and methods, receive mentoring from top PBRN investigators, build skills that accelerate their development as research investigators, and provide them the opportunity to meet and interact with key leaders in the field.
