Respect each other

The article “Generation Gap: Effectively Leading Physicians of All Ages” [May/June 2013] strikes a chord with me. I am an 81-year-old full-time medical school faculty member who once headed a major department in a large county government before returning to teaching at age 45. I have experienced – and continue to experience – the full range of relationships with students. During the past 36 years, these relationships have ranged from the trusting and intimate to the hostile and distant. I can say that the dozen key leadership points offered in the article apply to all human relationships and can be summed up in the simple concept of showing respect for one another.
