• The secret to motivation at work

    To motivate employees, organizations often think the solution is to offer extrinsic rewards, but the effects are usually short lived. It turns out that employees who have intrinsic motivation invest more deeply and progress much further.

    Cultivating a culture of intrinsic motivation requires three overlapping pursuits.

    1. Purpose: the desire to contribute to something that transcends us.

    2. Mastery: the desire to continually improve at something we value.

    3. Autonomy: the desire to be self-directed.
