American Academy of Family Physicians and AnswersMedia Expand Their Media Presence with Launch of ‘Live Well HD Network’ on ABC-Owned Television Stations
AAFP Leaders Host Network’s Health Care Segments

(LEAWOOD, Kan.) – The American Academy of Family Physicians is teaming with multi-platform video distributor AnswersMedia, LLC., to provide consumers with expert health content on a new high-definition and digital broadcast, online and wireless network — Live Well HD.
Live Well HD Network, a venture of the ABC Owned Television Stations, debuted on April 27 in 10 broadcast markets: New York; Los Angeles; Chicago; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Houston; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Fresno, Calif.; Flint, Mich.; and Toledo, Ohio. ABC estimates the advertiser-sponsored network currently reaches about 24 percent of U.S. homes with televisions, and discussions are underway to roll it out to additional markets in the coming months.
AAFP President Ted Epperly, M.D., of Boise, Idaho, and President-elect Lori Heim, M.D. of Vass, N.C., serve as regular hosts of Live Well’s “Say Ahh!” health care segment, which provides expert health and medical news based on peer-reviewed content from FamilyDoctor.org, the AAFP’s award-winning consumer health Web site. Each of the 30-minute broadcasts ends with a message from one of the two AAFP leaders, and a third host yet to be announced, directing patients with questions to FamilyDoctor.org for more information.
“With this new venture we are finding new and innovative ways to educate patients and empower them to take control of their health,” said Michael Springer, AAFP vice president for publishing and communications. “The AAFP is excited to be the first medical association to capitalize on such a dynamic multimedia offering.”
“Say Ahh!”, one of six shows currently featured on the Live Well HD Network, covers topics such as asthma, skin conditions, stroke and allergies. Each of the programs airs multiple times throughout the day. Other Live Well HD Network programs will focus on home, health and lifestyle including healthy cooking, beauty and fashion, outdoor activities, home improvement and personal growth, and will also be available on the livewellhd.com Web site.
