TransforMED’s Board of Managers Appoints Three New Members

LEAWOOD, Kan. –Three new members of TransforMED(’s governing body will help achieve the organization’s mission to transform health delivery to achieve optimal patient care, professional satisfaction and success of primary care practices.

The recently appointed members of TransforMED’s Board of Managers are Chair Roland Goertz, MD, MBA, FAAFP, John Bachman, MD, and Albert Santalo, MBA. They began their three-year terms June 1.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Academy of Family Physicians, TransforMED provides ongoing consultation, support, tools and resources to physicians and practice leaders looking to transform their practices to the patient-centered medical home model of care.

“Roland Goertz, John Bachman and Albert Santalo each bring a high level of experience, insight and energy to the TransforMED Board. Their expertise is exactly what we need as we help primary care practices achieve the triple aim of improved patient outcomes, improved patient satisfaction, and lower costs through patient-centered medical homes and neighborhoods,” said Bruce Bagley, president and CEO of TransforMED.

Goertz, the chair of TransforMED’s Board of Managers, is the past board chair and past president of the AAFP. While serving the AAFP, he was involved with the initial creation of TransforMED. He is the chief executive officer of the three foundations that oversee all operations of the Waco Family Health Center. Goertz previously served as president of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Association of Community Health Centers and the McLennan County Medical Society.  

Bachman has worked for more than 35 years as a family physician in Rochester, Minnesota.  He has delivered more than 1,200 babies, is caring for four generations of patients and has an active clinical practice. He is also the Saunders Professor of Primary Care at the Mayo Clinic, and an author of a study on e-visits in primary care.  

Santalo is the chairman, CEO, president and founder of CareCloud. CareCloud’s goal is to enhance health care delivery through user-friendly, cloud-based technologies that connect physicians to their patients and each other. CareCloud has become a leading provider of cloud-based health IT software and services, attracting physicians across 50 specialties in 48 states.

TransforMED’s Board of Managers is responsible for providing insight and oversight, determining strategy and overall direction, and appointing leadership to carry out the company’s day-to-day operations.
