Description
The Urgent Care Fellowship is a 12-month continuing specialty that will provide enhanced post-residency clinical experience in the field of Urgent Care Medicine. The Fellow will have one on one preceptorship with the Urgent Care Clinical Instructors, community preceptors, and Dept. of Family Medicine faculty. They will learn through hands on care of patients, attendance at the annual Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) meeting and by presenting and attending mandatory didactics. The Fellow will experience varying degrees of independence throughout the year. It is anticipated that the fellow will be an “additional” physician to the normally scheduled physicians at the Quick Care. As an “additional” provider, the fellow will see the patient panel of the urgent care attending that they are working with that day. Between months 3 and 6, the resident should become capable of having their own patient panel and will be scheduled as one of the set scheduled providers (e.g. if there are normally 2 physicians scheduled for a shift, for 3-6 months, the fellow is the 3rd provider and for the final 6 to 12 months they are scheduled as 1 of the 2 providers). The Urgent Care Fellowship Program aims to integrate the following six ACGME competencies into the curriculum: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism and Systems-based Practice. Competency-based education focuses on learner performance (learning outcomes) in reaching specific objectives (goals and objectives of the curriculum). The Urgent Care Fellowship Program is a non-ACGME Accredited Program.
