Description
In general, our fellows complete 10-14 ED shifts per month. In comparison to other fellowship programs, where the fellow is used to staff the ED, our fellows are independent of our staffing ratios. This means that they are able to focus on the sickest and most interesting patients and in the beginning are encouraged to really learn from each case instead of worrying about patients waiting to be seen (Quality over Quantity). Our fellows participate in about 16 hours of monthly didactics composed of faculty lectures, oral/written board study sessions, and Simulation labs. Each fellow is given the opportunity to earn POCUS certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. They are sent to an adult and pediatric critical care course, as well as an US guided nerve block cadaver course. Each fellow is also given additional CME days to attend a conference of their choice (one of our fellows is doing a High-Risk EM Conference in Hawaii this March!). They are provided with study materials for both oral and written boards and are provided with funds toward an additional study program of their choice. Fellows also design and complete a quality improvement project which can even be applied toward your FM Board Certification Maintenance Requirements.
