Description
The program has two components: a basic global health curriculum provided throughout the three years of training to all residents and 2- or 4-week electives for interested residents who, in addition to learning the basic curriculum, will gain additional global health skills and knowledge, as well as participate in international and local health care experiences that focus on caring for the medically underserved during their second and third years of training.

Field experience
Participating residents elect a 1- to 4-week rotation at one of the rotation sites during their second and/or third year of residency. In addition to performing clinic duties at the sites, residents participate in online course modules and discussion sessions with a faculty preceptor and complete a pre-travel needs assessment, an on-site project and a debriefing program at the residency upon return.
Didactics
All residents participate in the basic lecture curriculum. Those participating in the second program component receive additional reading material, participate in online courses and meet with faculty mentors.
