Didactics

R2 and R3 (and rarely R1) Family Medicine residents on our Global Health Pathway participate in a 2-week course with residents from other UW specialties who are on their respective Global Health Pathways (peds, OB, emergency medicine etc). This “Fundamentals of Global Health” course uses a variety of teaching methods including simulation, group work, and didactics and is held annually in the fall. UW Family Medicine, Pediatric, OB/gyn, Emergency Medicine and IM/Infectious Disease faculty lead this course. The University of Wisconsin Global Health Institute has coursework available that can lead to obtaining a Global Health Certificate or can be applied to an MPH degree. Opportunities exist for residents in the residency's Global Health Pathway to organize their clinical schedules to facilitate enrollment in some of these courses.

Additional cost information

Residents may utilize their annually allocated Professional Development funds to pay for global health activities (PG1=$1000, PG2=$1000, PG3=$1000). Remaining costs, including tuition, are the responsibility of the resident.
