Description
Our program has various opportunities for residents to spend time on global health rotations or short-term global medical missions. Residents have the option of designing their own rotations or going with a faculty member on one, two or three yearly medical mission trips that occur at pre-planned times and locations. Mercy Hospital offers annual competitive grants of up to $1500 for residents participating in global health rotations.

Field experience
Usually 1-2 weeks for short term medical missions. Electives should be at least 2 weeks but preferably one month. All residents and students will work with local medical personnel or mission team leaders to provide primary and acute care to local residents in need. Experiences vary but often include clinic and hospital duties and minor procedures.
Didactics
Formal didactics are left to the discretion of the supervising preceptor/faculty.

Costs vary by location and time spent. Minimum cost includes air travel and lodging outside of the final destination. Mercy Hospital offers annual competitive grants of up to $1500 for residents to defray costs of global health rotations.
