    Program Description

    Carolinas Medical Center FMRP is a well-established program dating to 1973 when family medicine first became a specialty. We are 1 program with 3 tracks named for the location of the residency office: Biddle Point/ Urban Underserved, Elizabeth/ Traditional and Union/ Community Apprenticeship. We are passionate about caring for the underserved patients of Charlotte and Monroe, NC. Carolinas Medical Center offers the best of both worlds: a strong academic environment in a thriving community-based program. Additionally, the best of medium-large city of Charlotte and the small town of Monroe, NC. Our residents and faculty enjoy supportive, collegial relationships with our peers in other specialties both in the hospital and beyond. Faculty are outstanding and very approachable, with expertise that runs the full scope of family medicine. We are fully accredited by the ACGME. There are a few initiatives that we would like to highlight for you: *Teaching Excellence Award for medical student teaching for all 3 residency sites *100% ABFM initial certification board pass rate *Regional/ national presentations and publications for residents and faculty *Multidisciplinary team-based care for full scope FM in all 3 residency sites *Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Geriatrics *Primary care infectious disease treatment for HIV and HepC Other areas of strength our program offers include procedural training, evidence-based medicine, community medicine, geriatrics, sports/musculoskeletal medicine, and pediatric/adolescent medicine.
