    Program Description

Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency’s forty-nine year old mission of “Educating Family Physicians through Excellent Patient Care” reflects our dual goals to provide continuous, compassionate and competent healthcare that develops the practice skills of our resident physicians for the challenges of their future career. We are meeting these goals with our enthusiastic faculty, outstanding staff, state-of-the-art facilities, diverse patient demographics, and supportive community partners. We approach training by insuring experiences are focused on learning and involve work that is useful to family medicine practice. Our graduates are especially comfortable caring for all ages in all settings - inpatient and outpatient, as well as in urban, suburban or rural communities. Our local community and health system is represented strongly by our graduates in medical leadership and over 50 percent of our primary care. We have faculty with focused interests in Musculoskeletal Care, POCUS, Office Based Procedures, Maternity Care and Women's Health. Our program has started the process to obtain ACGME Osteopathic Recognition by hiring a new Director of Osteopathic Education and revising our curricula to optimize training in Osteopathic Principles. Our residents are respected members of the healthcare team and, while training, are well supported in their active learning, teaching and leading. We enjoy a strong accreditation history, excellent board certification history and high area retention of graduates in practice. Our program has a highly humane schedule, collegial peers and family-like program support. As an ideal location for living and training, we invite you to consider joining our team by contacting us or applying to our training opportunities.
