Program Description

Natividad, a UCSF-affiliated, community-based residency, is proudly sponsored by California’s first public hospital. As the only residency program at Natividad, Family Medicine takes center stage—offering intensive, hands-on training in inpatient medicine, high-volume and high-risk obstetrics, and comprehensive family planning, including abortion care. Our continuity clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) operated by the Monterey County Health Department. Here, residents serve a vibrant and diverse community, gaining the skills to address health disparities among immigrant farm workers and other underserved populations. Located just 20 minutes from the stunning Monterey Bay and two hours south of San Francisco, our program combines mission-driven work with the natural beauty and quality of life found on California’s Central Coast. Education is integral to our culture. Residents teach throughout their training, supporting 10 year-round clerkship students and a steady flow of visiting students. Our four OB Fellows further enhance the learning environment by providing advanced obstetrical training and mentorship. We also offer unique rural and global health experiences, preparing residents to lead in a variety of settings—locally and worldwide.
