    Program Description

The St. Anthony North Family Medicine Residency Program has a forty-six year tradition of training bright and compassionate Family Physicians. Beginning in 1970, soon after the inauguration of the American Board of Family Practice, this residency has proudly worked to help young physicians hone their skills and develop the traits of a well-rounded Family Physician, while bringing excellent care to the communities of Denver, Colorado. The Program finds balance in the training of inpatient and outpatient medicine and does not neglect the necessary balance between our professional and personal lives. Indeed, we are dedicated to the ideal that a physician well-balanced in her or his professional and personal goals is the best type of physician to care for patients across the spectrums of age, family, and illness. We are equally dedicated to a sound academic mission. We place heavy emphasis on adult learning models in which residents and faculty work side-by-side, along with our clinic and hospital staffs, to bring world-class care to our patients while imbuing the resident with the experience and knowledge base needed as a Family Physician. We support this educational environment through a structure of regular didactic sessions, one-on-one mentoring with faculty, routine exposure to community preceptors, and attention to evidence-based clinical applications. Our program enjoys the attention of the hospital's medical staff, who are dedicated to our teaching mission. We are fortunate to have a large patient base, which gives the residents opportunities to train in all parts of Family Medicine, including obstetrics and inpatient medicine. We are big enough so that our call schedules are balanced and reasonable, yet we are small enough that individual attention is a norm in the residents' daily experience. We believe strongly that there is more than one type of excellent Family Physician and our record stands for itself: we have graduates from coast-to-coast practicing in every imaginable setting, be it full-time traditional Family Medicine with obstetrics to outpatient-based practices to Native American healthcare to rural to urban to suburban to academics and to many more.
