NH Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency is an unopposed program at Concord Hospital. The goal of NHDFMR’s three-year 8-8-8 residency program is to prepare highly qualified family physicians to succeed in future healthcare systems and assume leadership roles within the community. Residents are given a practical clinical education with a focus on evidence-based medicine and the diagnostic, procedural, and case-management skills needed for family medicine. With an understanding of current and future trends in healthcare, we teach clinical skills within the context of managed care, community-oriented primary care, family systems medicine, organizational dynamics, and information technology. Leadership skills and practice management are reinforced through seminars and projects that provide our graduates with the ability to lead creatively and effectively in future healthcare systems. The program helps residents gain the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with the psychosocial aspects of family practice through close collaborations with mental health professionals. We also include support groups, clinical supervision, and faculty mentors to help residents transform the issues, techniques and conceptual framework of their work into personal and professional growth. We also offer a combined Family Medicine/Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency in conjunction with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Graduates of the combined program are board eligible in both Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine, as well as receive a Master of Public Health from The Dartmouth Institute at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
